Open for Business, Promotion Tips and more

Hello Author,

Well, we made it, MindBites is open to the public. And we do mean "we" since we couldn't have done it without you. Thanks for all the support. Now the real fun begins!

YOU are open for business!

Congratulations, you are now officially a published web author! Your lessons are now being viewed by users from around the world and are available for purchase. Don't get a big head quite yet though. :) Internet stardom doesn't happen overnight. Our community will grow over time, but of course there are things you can do to actively promote your lessons (see below). Remember, "every journey begins with a single step."

Promoting your lesson is as easy as 1-2-3

Every good marketing guru will tell you that building a great product is only half the battle. Here are three simple tips for spreading the word about your masterpiece.

  1. Look at your lesson with "Google-colored" glasses

The way you write your lesson title and description may be the single most important factor in promoting it. That's because we built MindBites to be search engine friendly. In fact some of your lessons are already ranking very well, such as How to Embroider a Greeting Card which is the #1 result on Google!

Take a look at optimizing your title and description. Include phrases you think someone would use in a Google search and as many keywords as you can. Don't skimp on that description, this is one place where less is not more! (Note that it usually takes a week or so for Google to "see" your changes).

  2. The Missing Links

Another key in both search results and helping users find your instructionals is the number of other sites that link back to your lesson page. The more links, the better. So put links to your lesson on your own website or blog and see if you can get others to do the same. Here's an example from CraftyPod.com (great work Sister Diane!).

  3. Get a little help from your friends!

Last and certainly not least, recruit your friends, family and colleagues to help get the word out! They can use the Share tools in the player to email, link and embed your lesson on their own site and blogs, and can even list them in social bookmarking sites such as Digg, and Del.icio.us. Feel the love!

    embed a video link

With these simple steps and a little effort you'll soon be teaching people from here to Timbuktu!
